The basics of quilting will be covered including fabric selection, grain of fabric, care of fabric, use of specialized tools and rulers, efficiency with a rotary cutter and chain piecing. The "Math" of quilting will be discussed as blocks are chosen so that a beginner can start to visualize how to break down quilts into their component pieces and recreate them without the need to purchase a pattern. This sampler features the log cabin block, half-square triangles, quarter-square triangles, flying geese, square-in-a-square blocks and sew-and-flip blocks.

Bring a pencil and paper to take notes and stay organized.

You do NOT have to have all of your fabrics on the first day of class, you can listen to the first lecture and then determine what you might choose to purchase. If you have them in advance, do not cut them until you have learned some cutting tricks. You DO have to have your sewing machine on the first day of class, you will be sewing samples provided by the instructor.
